Thinking Sociologically: The development of human societies: Pre-modern , modern and postmodern societies; Theories of society and sociological perspectives: Functionalism, Marxism, interactionism, postmodernism, Conflict perspective, Feminist Perspective; Views of human behavior: Positivism, Social action perspectives, Phenomenology; Sociology and values. Basic Concepts in Sociology: Society and Institutions; Community and Association; Concept of Aggregate, Categories; Groups and Its Forms; Social Structure and Social Processes; Status and Role. Social interaction: Nature of social interaction; theories of social interaction; structure of social interaction; Forms of social interaction – Cooperation, Competition, conflict, accommodation and exchange (15 Hours) 4. Culture and Socialization: Meaning of culture; Components of Culture: Beliefs, Values, Language and Norms; Evolutionist, Diffusionist and Functionalist Perspectives on Culture; Cultural change; Cultural diversity; Towards a global Culture; Socialization: Meaning, Types and Agencies; Resocialization; Socialization by caste, religion and gender.
